Training Sessions

Session #1 (9:30 a.m.) – FOUR ESSENTIALS OF SMALL GROUP MINISTRY (led by Dr. Randy Wollf)

A recent research study on small groups entitled, Big Impact: Connecting People to God and One Another in Thriving Groups, discovered that groups that see people accept Christ, increase in size, and multiply into additional groups have four things in common. They have small group leaders who grow their groups by modeling and facilitating prayer, outreach, care, and the empowerment of group members. This seminar gives an overview of the research and how small group leaders can lead for maximum growth in their small group.

Session #2 (11:00 a.m.) - LEADING A SMALL GROUP & ASKING GOOD QUESTIONS (led by Keith Reed)

Leading the actual small group meetings is obviously an important skill for small group leaders. We will look at the following essential leading skills: breaking the ice, establishing a flexible structure for your meeting times, using non-verbal cues effectively, and active listening. We will also include the skill of asking excellent questions which help to launch and guide a discussion in a direction which is profitable for the group.

Session #4 (2:15 p.m.) – SHEPHERDING AND MENTORING SKILLS (led by Dr. Randy Wollf)

Small group leaders have the incredible privilege of shepherding or providing care for their small group. We will look at several shepherding skills including making disciples, building a healthy group culture, investing time in building community, providing support, and practicing loving confrontation. We will also focus on the key shepherding skill of mentoring others. This is the skill of asking good questions and providing timely counsel that spurs another person to love God more deeply and serve Him more effectively.

Session #5 (3:30 p.m.) – OUTREACH AND MULTIPLYING SKILLS (led by Dr. Randy Wollf)

The strongest communities have a sense of mission beyond themselves. In this seminar, we will look at several essential outreach and multiplying skills: mobilizing and equipping people to serve, encouraging group members to be missional, adding members to your group, launching a new group, and reducing launch pains.
